Lost Alamos: Music

Pole Dancer

(Lost Alamos)

I had surgery (no big deal) in 2007 and had to spend about 10 days at home recovering. I thought I'd read, play guitar, write a few things, use the time well. What I didn't realize was that the pain drugs were going to make me into a spaced-out drooling idiot. So there I was, watching TV and not really caring what I was seeing. Found myself watching CSI Las Vegas, which I'd never seen before. The investigators went into a strip club at one point, and I remember thinking vaguely, "Now, what she's doing there looks like a good idea." Wrote out the song in a lucid moment. This one required a little explanation on my part when Vicki found it on the music stand. It was a long time before she'd sing it with me.

Is it the strobe light shadows bouncin’ off the back of the stage?
Is it the costumes and the makeup got me feelin’ younger than my age?
Is it this classy place and the rich ambiance?
Is it knowin’ those girls have really studied dance?
Is it that pole dancer, oh baby, oh my?

Well, the first time I saw her I was captivated by the sight
Her dress code was simple -- all she had on was the light
Four-inch spike heels, satin G-string
She didn’t get the job ‘cause she knew how to sing
That’s a real pole dancer, oh baby, oh my

She’s an honest workin’ girl just tryin’ to get herself by
Probably doesn’t hurt that she’s somewhat easy on the eye
She doesn’t mind the nightwork, it’s the same as the day
The job ain’t hard--good benefits and pay
She’s a hot pole dancer, oh baby, oh my

(spoken) “Professional work ought never bring a person shame
It ain’t what you do, it’s how you get it done is the game”
She can slide it up and down, grind it side to side
Make them old church ladies want to run away and hide
She’s a pole dancer, oh baby, oh my

She’s seen every damn fool now, she’s been all around the block
You can tell her that you love her--she’ll tell you to take a walk
All you’re gonna get is what you get to see
‘Cause she’s the mother of two--got a master’s degree
And she’s a real pole dancer, oh baby, oh my

She’s an honest workin’ girl just tryin’ to get herself by
Probably doesn’t hurt that she’s somewhat easy on the eye
She doesn’t mind the nightwork, it’s the same as the day
The job ain’t hard--good benefits and pay
She’s my favorite pole dancer, oh baby, oh my (repeat)
She’s my favorite pole dancer, oh baby, oh my
